Your development – to CIMA qualification and beyond

You will be expected to pass your CIMA exams by the time you reach the end of your third year on the programme. Naturally, this will take a large amount of commitment on your part, but since we are a ‘CIMA Training Quality Partner’ we will give you all the support you need to achieve qualification. In fact, our CIMA pass rate has consistently been above 90%.

Our training is of the highest quality and we work in conjunction with BPP, a leading quoted education group for professional education. In addition to invaluable on-the-job experience, we offer a full CIMA training and study package, including paid study leave, which comprises:

  • Attendance at BPP taught courses per module
  • Attendance at BPP revision courses per module
  • All course materials and books
  • The opportunity to sit, and receive feedback on, mock exams through BPP
  • All study costs and exam fees
  • CIMA student subscription fees, and CIMA finalist/membership fees on qualification
  • Participation in the BAE Systems Graduate Development Framework Programmes

FLDP Mentoring

As well as receiving ongoing support from your line manager, after approximately six months you will be allocated a mentor who will be a senior member of the company. Throughout the first three years of the programme, quality time will be dedicated on a regular basis for you to discuss your career and gain a different perspective on the work you are doing. Your mentor can help you to build on your strengths and overcome weaknesses, while also providing an independent viewpoint that will help to ensure that your career opportunities span the different Business Groups within BAE Systems.

Your first three years

Your first three years will focus on gaining the CIMA qualification. You will experience three 12-month roles across the business, at least one of which will be in Project Finance. These roles, which change annually each September, involve taking significant responsibility from the outset to gain wide exposure to the business, while gaining a breadth of financial knowledge and the all-important practical experience to meet the requirements of the qualification.

During the three years, you will gain exposure in areas such as financial accounting, financial reporting, management accounting and project accounting.

Your performance and salary will be reviewed at six-monthly intervals to reflect the way your leadership skills have developed.

Beyond your qualifications

Following your third year, and after gaining your CIMA qualification, the FLDP continues with a two-year, senior accountancy role. This will continue to challenge you and help you enhance your leadership potential.

The emphasis of the final two years of the FLDP is to build practical skills tailored to your personal development needs. Much of the programme focuses on developing your management skills, equipping you with the fundamentals of being a senior leader, as well as building your technical knowledge in areas such as Project Finance, Financial/Management Reporting and Risk Management. Our intention is to equip you with the broad range of managerial and technical skills to take up key accounting and management positions in our businesses and projects.

During these two years, management mentoring will be ongoing, and your performance will continue to be regularly reviewed and rewarded.
