The Graduate Development Framework provides an entry point into a range of careers: Engineering Engineering is about designing and developing advanced technology for new or existing platforms, from ingeniously small components to extraordinary complex integrated systems. It’s about managing the full lifecycle of platform projects from design through to build. And it’s about working with customers to service existing products and train users. Systems Engineering is an essential discipline in the lifecycle of products that include land, sea and air platforms, as well as large-scale communications, training and operational C4ISR systems. Support Engineers are responsible for all aspects of in-service support. This includes spares, repairs, maintenance and logistics management – service contracts often run for decades, employ thousands of people and are valued at hundreds of millions of pounds. Software Engineers work at the heart of our electronic products, getting involved in the full product lifecycle from eliciting initial requirements through the design, implementation and test phases to product qualification and acceptance. Electrical and Electronic Engineers make decisions about electronic product content, optimising electronic hardware and software design concepts. They synthesise the design from a range of component and technology options and support the product throughout its working life. Developing sophisticated design processes, methods and tools is another part of their role. Mechanicals and Structures covers Physical, Structural and Mechanical Systems through analysis, design, development and test of complex and intelligent products. It includes aerodynamics and hydrodynamics. Manufacturing Engineers help ensure that our products can actually be manufactured. Then, once all the development phases are complete, they turn our world-leading design capability into physical products. Project Management Our projects cover air, sea and land systems. They could involve many thousands of people, comprise multiple contracts and last for up to 30 years – which means we can offer you a uniquely challenging and complex environment in which to develop a career in project management. Production Graduate engineers and business managers gain leading-edge knowledge in every aspect of production, from process development to production management and quality assurance. Products range from miniature electronic components to complex structures such as aircraft fuselages. Procurement Procurement provides the goods and services we need. Your experiences could range from negotiating major contracts with key vendors to managing the supply chain and working with suppliers to create mutual business goals. Commercial Commercial protects our position across all spheres of operation. It is responsible for managing complex contracts, identifying and mitigating risk, and winning and delivering profitable business by traditional and innovative means. Human Resources HR adds value to our operations, plays a pivotal role in the delivery of our business strategy and is widely recognised by senior managers. Its remit covers resourcing; learning and development; reward and recognition; health, safety and environment; communications; employee relations; and organisational development. |
