Business Roles

Opportunities at BAE Systems are not only engineering related. We have a wide range of business functions including the following:

  • Project Management – Project Management takes place in every one of our business units, and across our business units, in all the sectors where we operate (land, sea, air, support, electronic systems etc). Projects may range in scale from small, stand-alone study contracts worth a few thousand pounds, to multi-billion pound programmes such as Eurofighter, Type 45 or Astute. In reality, these larger programmes are usually broken down into a series of smaller, integrated work packages.
  • Procurement –  BAE Systems currently spends over £5bn each year with some 15,000 suppliers.  Whether the sector you choose is Air, Land or Sea, the procurement environment is both varied and exciting.  You could find yourself in either a functional team or a multi-functional team
  • Commercial - We are partners in some of the world’s highest-profile defence projects and we are continually winning new business.  The Commercial function is responsible for providing our Customers with innovative commercial solutions that deliver competitive advantage and profitable business whilst ensuring that our contractual obligations are met.
  • Human Resources - HR adds value to our operations, plays a pivotal role in the delivery of our business strategy and is widely recognised by senior managers. Its remit covers resourcing; learning and development; reward and recognition; health, safety and environment; communications; employee relations; and organisational development.
  • Sales & Marketing - As a global leader, BAE Systems has world wide reach into markets on all continents. Key to the success of the company is the Sales and Marketing function. Sales staff in business units and programmes are responsible for owning operational level relationships with customer organisations; for leading and resourcing integrated campaign teams working on their products, and, in concert with the central Marketing function, for managing and delivering activity leading to winning contracts.
